The taste of CBD Oil

In these stressful times, people increasingly look for sources of peace and calm. CBD supplements are growing ever more popular as a natural means towards that end, able to bring valuable relaxation and to relieve pain, stress, and more. However, since everything is a matter of taste, not everyone loves the flavour of CBD Oil. It has a reputation of carrying an unpleasant, earthy taste. But is that true? How exactly does CBD Oil taste? And what determines its flavour? Read on to get a taste of in-depth hemp oil knowledge!

What can CBD Oil do for your body?

For one, CBD Oil can bring a sense of calm, by restoring the internal balance inside your body. CBD, or cannabidiol, interacts with our endocannabinoid system (ECS), which ensures that all the physiological process in the body run in smooth synchronicity. This is a challenging task, and CBD Oil can lend a helping hand whenever our biology needs it.

Not everyone has a strong ECS, and so, some people are more balanced by default than others. External and internal factors, such a stress, can weaken the ECS and disrupt the balance between bodily processes.

Obviously, taking CBD Oil is not the only thing we can do to balance our physiology. Getting enough sleep, taking time to relax, a healthy diet, and plenty of exercise are essential for a healthy mind and body. Best of all, though, maintaining such a healthy lifestyle benefits your ECS in turn!

How does CBD Oil taste?

The taste of different CBD Oil brands can vary wildly. Raw hemp oil, for instance, has a pungent, earthy flavour. Some types of Full Spectrum CBD Oil can taste like hemp as well. CBD isolates, by contrast, are derived by different techniques that take away most if not all of the natural flavour. This property makes CBD isolate ideal for use in hemp-based edibles and drinks, for instance.

The advantages of our Full Spectrum CBD Oil

Our Full Spectrum CBD Oil is a special product. By ‘full spectrum’, we mean that the oil contains the entire range of cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids, and minerals found in premium hemp crops. This enables the entourage effect to take place, by which all compounds in Full Spectrum CBD Oil can influence and boost each other’s potential.

The one cannabinoid you will not find in our oil in any noticeable quantities, however, is THC. This means our Full Spectrum CBD Oil is non-psychoactive: it cannot make you ‘high’, leaving you free to function at peak performance level.

What determines the taste of CBD Oil?

The taste of CBD Oil largely depends on the terpenes, flavonoids, and carrier oil it contains.

Terpenes and flavonoids

Terpenes and flavonoids are natural plant ingredients. Terpenes determine the scent of most plants, but moreover, terpenes in CBD Oil can cause various effects of their own. Myrcene, one of the best-known hemp terpenes, has relaxing properties, for instance, whereas limonene has more uplifting and inspiring effects instead.

Flavonoids are natural antioxidants, and they often determine the colour of fruit and vegetables. The antioxidant capacity of flavonoids allows them to help us protect our body from harmful free radicals.

Flavonoids and terpenes add to the unique taste and character of our Full Spectrum CBD Oil, but on top of that, they add their own potential health benefits.

The carrier oil

Our CBD Oil is made using natural olive oil. High-quality olive oil like the one we use always carries a somewhat bitter flavour. This is largely due to the levels of antioxidants present in the oil. The better the quality of the olive oil, the more antioxidants it contains, adding to its characteristic bitter taste. As a general rule of thumb, we can say that a more intense flavour means olive oil is better for our health!

Ever heard of antioxidants and free radicals?

We already mentioned the notion of antioxidants while discussing flavonoids above. But what exactly are free radicals, and how do they relate to free radicals?

In short, free radicals are by-products of our own body’s internal chemistry. Much of our biochemistry involves oxidation reactions, in which oxygen is used and free radicals are released. These are fully natural processes that are relatively harmless, as our own body produces compounds that can deal with these free radicals.

Some free radicals reach our body from the outside world, however. Chemicals, pollution, UV radiation, unhealthy fats: the list of potential sources goes on. These external free radicals attach to specific cells in our tissues, impairing their ability to function as they should.

High-quality olive oil – the bitter-tasting kind – contains high volumes of antioxidants. Interestingly, though, CBD itself also has antioxidant qualities. That means CBD, the flavonoids, and the olive oil in our full spectrum hemp supplements all contribute to the fight against free radicals, limiting the damage they can do to your body!

How to mask the flavour?

If you really don’t like the taste of CBD Oil, we have a few tips and tricks you can use to mask and diminish the flavour. Before we share these with you, though, allow us to tell you about the best ways to use CBD Oil, regardless of taste.

How should you use CBD Oil?

The best way to use our CBD Oil is to place a few drops underneath your tongue. This enables the mucous membranes of the mouth to rapidly absorb CD into the bloodstream. Always shake the bottle well before use! Then, simply drip the intended number of drops underneath your tongue, wait for about 60 seconds, and then swallow the oil.

Masking techniques

If you occasionally use a few drops of CBD oil under your tongue, the taste should not be much of a problem. Still, it is almost impossible to avoid contact with your tongue as soon as you swallow. This can be a good way to slowly get used to the taste of CBD Oil, as many people who use it will agree. We advise you to try and get used to the flavour instead of giving up. After all, you are trying to enjoy the therapeutic effects of CBD Oil; don’t let the taste keep you from your goal!

Of course, not everyone is willing to adjust to the taste of CBD Oil. If you find the taste of CBD Oil truly unpleasant, you could try drinking a cup of honeyed tea right after swallowing the drops. Another neat trick is putting a breath mint in your mouth as you count to 60 while the oil takes effect, camouflaging the taste of CBD Oil before swallowing it.

Another smart move is mixing the oil drops in with your bowl of cereal or yoghurt to start your day. You could also stir them into your morning coffee, hot coco, or tea. If you prefer to use CBD at night, why not add it to a mocktail night cap instead?

Do note, however, that mixing CBD Oil with food or drinks increases the time your body needs to absorb the cannabinoids, as they do not make direct contact with the membranes of the mouth!
