Using CBD against high blood pressure

Research indicates ( that in the Netherlands, one out of every four men and one out of every five women are struggling with high blood pressure problems. High blood pressure can cause a wide range of health problems. Here at SupMedi, we want to take the time to explain how this works, as well as possible ways to stop or prevent high blood pressure problems.

Diet and stress

Blood pressure is affected by many different factors. Some of these factors are within our personal control, enabling us to do something about it when it comes to our own health. Diet and stress in particular are two well-known causes of high blood pressure, and these are factors that we can influence ourselves. If you succeed at living a less stressful life, while at the same time maintaining a healthier diet, your body stands a very good chance of restoring blood pressure to healthy levels by itself. Here’s how it works:

CBD lowers blood pressure

Several cannabinoids, including CBD, are known to lower blood pressure. Using CBD causes the blood vessels in your body to dilate or widen. Wider blood vessels cause less friction, making it easier for the heart to pump blood all around the body. Because the heart doesn’t need to put as much pressure on the bloodstream due to the widened blood vessels, blood pressure drops. Easy as that. You may in fact be using CBD for altogether different purposes, and still lower your overall blood pressure as a positive side-effect. This is information that you should use wisely, because if your blood pressure becomes too low, other problems may arise.

CBD and low blood pressure

Incidentally, use of CBD is not advisable for people who deal with very low blood pressure. After all, CBD will only lower your blood pressure further. This can have negative consequences, and so it should be avoided. One of the risks involved in low blood pressure is feinting, which can be dangerous in itself due to risks of falling, for instance.

CBD and high blood pressure

The important thing with high blood pressure is to identify what causes it, and then to remove that cause. As mentioned above, high blood pressure may be due to stress or poor nutrition habits. However, there are many other factor that may cause high blood pressure. That is why it is very important to always consult your doctor. Research has pointed out that CBD actually decreases blood pressure, although we do need to point out that these studies involve very high dosages of CBD, and as of yet, no clinical evidence has been provided conclusively.

Combining CBD with prescription drugs

Your physician may decide to set you up for prescription drugs to keep your blood pressure below a certain limit. Since CBD lowers blood pressure too, combining CBD and prescription drugs can be risky. Your blood pressure could drop below safe levels. Do not take any chances by simply trying out how these combinations affect you. Consult your doctor on your intention to use CBD, and discuss the best way to do so. There is a chance that you can still keep using your regular medication in smaller doses, provided that you use CBD correctly.
